How to add an image to a PDF: logo, signature or stamp
Published on August 20, 2026
You can add an image to a PDF for free in your browser: choose the file, click the page where it goes, adjust the size and download the finished PDF in seconds.
How to add an image to a PDF
To add an image to a PDF, upload the document, pick the logo, signature or stamp file in the image upload field (the browser shows a button such as "Choose File"), select the page, if there's more than one, and click the spot where the image should start. Drag the marker if you want to fine-tune the position, move the "Size" slider and click "Add and download". The original page stays intact underneath; the image goes on top, like a sticker. To write text over the page instead of placing an image, see how to fill a PDF form online.
What the tool does (and what it doesn't)
- Takes PNG and JPG directly. Other image formats (WebP, GIF, BMP…) are converted to PNG in your browser before going into the PDF; PNG transparency is preserved.
- iPhone HEIC photo: most browsers can't open that format and nothing happens when you choose the file. Convert it to JPG first (AtlasDocs has a HEIC to JPG tool).
- The point you click becomes the top-left corner of the image: it grows from there to the right and downward. If it didn't land where you wanted, drag the marker to the right spot.
- Dragging changes the position, not the size. Size is the "Size" slider, from 10% to 80% of the page width (starts at 30%); the image's proportions are kept.
- The size slider adjusts the last image you placed. To change an earlier one, remove it from the "Placed" list and place it again.
- You can place several images, on different pages, before downloading; each one shows up in the "Placed" list with a remove button.
- With several PDFs uploaded, a "Document" selector appears: only the chosen file is edited. There's no batch mode.
Common cases: logo, signature and stamp
- Logo or brand: put your company identity at the top of proposals, quotes and reports.
- Scanned signature: photograph or scan your signature against a light background and drop it on the contract's signature line. If you'd rather draw or type your signature instead of using a photo, the sign PDF tool does that.
- Stamp: "paid", "confidential", "approved" or a date on top of the page, without covering the important text.
- Photo or seal: a portrait on a form, a QR code, a crest on an official document.
Step by step to insert the image
- Open the add image tool and upload the PDF. If you uploaded more than one, choose which to edit under "Document".
- In the image upload field (the button the browser shows, usually "Choose File"), select the file: PNG, JPG or another image format.
- If the PDF has more than one page, pick the page in the "Page" selector. Click the preview at the spot where the image should start; it appears there, and you can drag it to fine-tune the position.
- Move the "Size" slider (10% to 80% of the page width) until it looks right. Repeat for other images or pages if you like.
- Click "Add and download". The PDF is named after the original plus "-editado".
For a signature or a stamp to sit naturally over the text, use an image with a transparent background (PNG) whenever you can: that way only the mark shows, not a white rectangle covering the page. If all you have is a photo with a light background, place it in an empty area of the document so the background doesn't get in the way. And remember the image goes on top: it's worth checking it isn't hiding an important detail before you download. To sign with legal validity, see how to sign a PDF for free in your browser.
How to prepare the image before inserting it
- Crop the image tight to the stroke: white borders count as part of it, and a wide margin pushes the signature away from the spot you clicked.
- Prefer a sharp image: it's embedded as is, and a small photo stretched to 80% of the width looks blurry in print.
- Reuse freely: the same image placed on several pages is stored only once in the PDF, so the file doesn't bloat.
Common errors and limits
- Image in the wrong place: remember the click marks the top-left corner, not the center. Drag the marker or remove it and click again.
- Size that "won't change": the slider only affects the last image placed. Remove the earlier one under "Placed" and place it again.
- Disabled button: "Add and download" is only enabled after at least one image has been placed on the page.
- Image too big: at 80% of the width, a tall photo can run past the bottom of the page. Reduce the size or click higher up.
- A rotated page (with the rotation saved in the file, like a scan lying sideways or a page that went through the rotate tool): the image is applied to the sheet's original position, not the one shown in the preview, and can land in the wrong place or sideways. Check the result.
Everything happens in your browser: the PDF and the image you insert are never sent to any server. The file is assembled on your own device.
