Convert RAR to 7z
Turn a .rar file into a .7z right in your browser, no WinRAR needed: the contents are actually extracted and repacked in 7-Zip's open format, which usually compresses better than ZIP. Password-protected RAR works too. Nothing is sent to any server.
Drag your files: PDF, EPUB, HEIC, JPG, PNG, DOCX, XLSX, TXT, MD, etc.
Frequently asked questions
- Why convert RAR to 7z instead of ZIP?
- 7z is an open, free format that usually compresses better than ZIP — good for archiving or sending large files. If the recipient only has the system's built-in extractor, prefer ZIP, which opens anywhere without installing anything.
- Do I need WinRAR or 7-Zip installed?
- No. Reading the .rar uses RARLAB's UnRAR components and creating the .7z uses 7-Zip, both running inside your browser. You upload the .rar and download the finished .7z.
- Does it work with a password-protected RAR?
- Yes. Type the RAR password in the field before converting. It is used only on your device and never sent anywhere. The generated .7z has no password; to protect it, use the Protect 7z tool.
- What if the RAR is split into parts (part1, part2…)?
- We don't convert volumes yet: each part depends on the others, and the conversion needs the whole set in a single .rar. If you have WinRAR, join the parts before uploading.
- Can I go the other way, from 7z to RAR?
- No — and no free website truly does. The RAR format is closed and only the official program can create it; the UnRAR license allows decompressing, never rebuilding the compressor.
