How to reduce image file size in one click, without blur

Reduce the file size of a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF image with one click, free and right in your browser, without blurring it. Here is how it works and what to expect.

How to reduce image file size in one click

To reduce the file size of an image, upload the file (JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF) to the compression tool and click "Compress and download". It re-saves the image in the same format, at a fixed quality level chosen so the difference does not show on screen, keeps the width and height, and tells you how much the file shrank. If there is no gain, it returns the original.

  1. Open the compress image tool.
  2. Upload the heavy image: JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF, including animated GIF. You can upload several at once.
  3. Click "Compress and download" (or "Compress N images" when there is more than one). There is no level to adjust: the tool picks the balance between quality and size for you.
  4. Read the message on screen: for example, "Reduced 62% — from 4.1 MB to 1.6 MB". Each image downloads as a separate file, in the same format, with "-comprimido" added to the name. If you uploaded several, the percentage and sizes shown are the totals for all the images.

What the tool does (and what it doesn't)

  • JPG and WebP: the image is re-saved at a fixed 70% quality, the point that cuts the most weight without visible blur.
  • PNG: re-saved with no loss at all. The gain is usually modest, because PNG is already compressed by design.
  • GIF, including animated: the animation and the transparency are kept; each frame's palette drops to at most 128 colors, which trims the file a lot.
  • Width and height do not change: the tool does not resize or crop. It reduces the detail stored in each pixel, not the number of pixels.
  • It never returns a bigger file: if compression does not help, you get the original back with the message "This image is already optimized — no meaningful reduction".
  • There is no preview, no side-by-side comparison and no quality slider. It is a single button, and the result shows as a percentage plus the before/after sizes.

Why an image gets heavy

An image's weight depends on two things: how many pixels it has (the resolution, width by height) and how much detail is stored in each pixel. Modern phone photos have millions of pixels and an extremely high level of detail: great for printing, overkill for an email or a web page. The tool only touches the second part: it trims detail your eyes cannot see on screen, without touching the pixel count. That is why the photo keeps the same dimensions and fits the same places as before.

When to compress and when to leave it alone

  • Social media and WhatsApp: compress. Loading fast matters most, and a phone screen forgives the lost detail.
  • Email attachment: compress. A light file will not hit the recipient's mailbox limit.
  • Website or online store: compress. A light page loads faster, and visitors will not notice the difference in the photo.
  • High-quality printing: do not compress; keep the original. There is no "compress just a little": the level is fixed.
  • A file another program already compressed: worth a try. If there is no gain, the tool says so and returns the original.

Need an even smaller file? Change the format

The format weighs heavily on the result. As a rule of thumb: JPG is best for photos; PNG suits images with flat colors, text or a transparent background; and WebP usually delivers the smallest file at good quality, and most current browsers and websites accept it. Common mistakes when reducing image file size

  • Compressing the same JPG over and over: every pass re-saves the photo and the loss adds up. Compress once, from the original.
  • Expecting a big gain on PNG: it is already losslessly compressed. If size matters more than transparency, convert to JPG or WebP.
  • Uploading a format the tool does not open: it accepts only JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF. iPhone HEIC photos need converting first.
  • Assuming the photo was "resized": the dimensions do not change. If you need fewer pixels, compression is not the tool for that.

Compression happens entirely in your browser: the image is processed on your own device and is never sent to any server. As a side effect, JPG, PNG and WebP come out without the photo's hidden data (location, device model and date): a bonus if you are about to publish, something to keep in mind if you want to keep the original date.

Limit: up to 2 GB per file, with no limit on how many. With giant images, what can fail is the browser's own memory; in that case, try one image at a time.

In short: reducing image file size here means upload, click and read the percentage. The tool does not blur because it uses a moderate level, it does not change the dimensions, and it never returns a bigger file.
